My friend recently told me that he’d be entrusting me two of his precious babies and asked me to take care of them. For a moment, that scary image of wailing babies squeezed its way into my grey cells followed by the horrible image of me flushing the babies down the toilet bowl. Turned out, his babies are made of plastic.
Kanaru from the Shunya Yamashita Character series is one of them. The other one is erm …still in the making. LOL. When I first got them both, my 5 year old nephew was with me and he saw the eye blogging ahems and asked me what’s that on Kanaru’s butt. :S I quickly shoved the figure back into the bag, turned on my PS3 and piratically demanded him to play, just to divert his attention.
I kinda like those dimples *blush*
Shooting figures has actually became somewhat of a chore for me now. I have about 10% of chakra left after every shoot. No thanks to my lack of space and disturbingly unrealistic lighting. The moment you know your lights are all wrong, the chain of events is likely to go like this : not enough light – adjust adjust – oh no, not enough space to stretch the lights- shift shift – too much light – adjust adjust – seems ok now – but wait, too much shadow on the face – shift shift, adjust adjust. . .
These are the original colours before the not-very-vintage, old skool treatment.
And you can see the one below has too much shadow on her face and the front is over exposed.
Anyway the fun kicks in the moment you get everything right. Some times I can waste up to a whole hour just setting up and trust me its not easy when you live in a shoe box. Once you can’t get the beginning right, I’ll advise you stop for the day or you’ll end up grumpy and frustrated like me and then the whole bunch of photos that you took will need to be processed. You know, minced, blended, vaporized.. using photoshop. LOL. And that was what I painstakingly did.

The figurine is indeed very sexy, that bum..
hmm I usually take one photo and see how’s the picture in PC and then if I like it, I’ll use that setting for the rest of the photos, you should try that way :D

@ ron: Yeah I used to do that. I guess I kinda overlooked it ever since I shifted house. No space for anything LOL. Looks like gonna use up more chakra to test the pix out at my comp :P
@ EstoKun: Keep on wishing! ^_^
@ 牛郎: er.. ok its eechi. LOL
@ Ellene: Haha yeah I loved the mirror too. Too bad its a tad small. I like experimenting with items. Sometimes it really does bring out the characteristics of the figure yet sometimes it just looks really out of place. I got this mirror from Daiso. They actually sell a lot of funny “useless” things there.

I love figures inspired by Shunya Yamashita’s works. His style is recognizable among all.
Again another wonderful photos shots. Denatured colors from the first series gives a unique atmosphere.
Photos with the mirror are grandiose.
